What Rules Do You Live By?

If you haven’t read You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero, you need to completely interrupt your day and go get it ASAP. It will seriously change your life. There is SO much that I want to quote from her book, but for today I want to talk about a simple quote that really got me thinking.

“You are a victim of the rules you play by.” -Jen Sincero

There are actually no rules to your life.  Did you know that? Society has us fooled into thinking that there are these rules set in stone, a generic guideline of what your life should look like.  It is a standard of success, and an expectation of normalcy.  Rules like, “You have to get your college degree”, “Success is suffering in that 9-5 job until you can retire,”  “Travel when you’re old and can afford it,” “Major in something that will make you money.” The snore fest could go on and on, but I’m going to pull a Kanye on those people preaching these “rules” for your life.

You limit yourself by feeding into these rules that have been instilled in you by society without you even noticing.

“I can’t do  _________ Because __________”

Fill in the blanks.  What “can’t” you do?  What are your reasons? Are they because of your stupid rules?

Stop holding yourself back from doing all of the things you want to do in life.  Think about all of the things you want to do, and instead of dismissing your ideas and ambitions by following those rules, be a total rebel and break them.  Break the rules, figure out what you want and be a badass like Jen Sincero.

Be a rule breaker. Be a badass. Stay Golden.

Just a 23 year old recent college graduate who is totally okay with not knowing what's next. Adventurer, wanderer, and dreamer but hopefully in the most non cliche way. Happiest by the ocean.
